Shipping Your Possessions to Indonesia
The following documents are required by Indonesian Customs to clear shipments into Indonesia:
For Foreigners Moving to Indonesia:
- Original passport
- Original ITAS (residency permit) which is formerly called KIM/S, with minimum validity of 12 months.
- Original IMTA (working permit), with minimum validity of 12 months.
- Original Packing List
- Original Bill of Lading or Airway Bill
For Indonesia Citizens Returning to Indonesia after living abroad:
- Have been out of Indonesia for at least 1 year with gainful employment, proven with the statement letter from your employer
- Obtain a Reference letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate at origin stating the reason for and duration of staying overseas.
- Must have packing list which certified by the Embassy prior departure
- Original Passport
- Original Bill of Lading or Airway Bill
For Diplomatic/Semi Diplomatic visa holders moving to Indonesia:
- Proof of diplomatic status, Dinas passport
- Diplomatic (Embassy): Form PP-8, which the Embassy in Jakarta applies for from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kementerian Luar Negeri or Menlu). It takes about 2-3 weeks to obtain the form.
- Semi-Diplomatic (i.e.:UN, UNICEF, WHO): Form PP-19, approved by the Indonesian State-Secretary (Sekretariat Negara). It takes about 2-3 weeks to obtain the form.
- Original Packing List
- Original Bill of Lading of Airway Bill
For importation of pets – accompanied or unaccompanied:
- Original certificate by Veterinarian (from country of origin) issued within 5 days of arrival in Indonesia
- Original Rabies vaccination certificate issued at least 30 days prior the pet arrival in Indonesia (but not older than 1 year)
- Import Permit in Indonesia (to apply this permit takes 10 working days at least) and the pet should not arrive in Indonesia before the import permit is on hand
- Copy of owner’s passport
- Original Vaccination Record
Note: Pets are only allowed to be imported from countries that are designated as ‘Rabies-Free’ at time of importation.
Items which will cause problems in clearing your shipment through customs:
- Anything new or in an original factory carton and which appears new is dutiable (all items should have been used by the importer for at least one year).
- Motor vehicles (incl. motorcycles) are strictly prohibited except for the holders of Diplomatic and Semi-Diplomatic visas (Dinas)
- DVDs, CDs, videos etc. can be imported in reasonable quantities providing they are not new, pornographic or politically sensitive.
- Statues are very sensitive items. If they are suspected as pre historical statues, then customs will hold them and take them to Indonesian Directorate of History and Archeology to be examined.
- Any major electrical item which are not in reasonable quantity.
- Any item which is motorized (motorcycle, jet-ski, etc.).
- Anything which is not customarily found in a home.
- Alcohol (wine & liquor & beer) and pornography will be confiscated.
- Food items – Only non perishable food items maybe imported in small amounts.
- Alcohol and pornography will be confiscated.
- Firearms and illegal drugs are strictly prohibited – punishment is severe.
Duty Free and Dutiable Goods
Goods that are duty free for entry into the country are allowed only under the following conditions:
- Every shipper is entitled of one sea Shipment and one air shipment.
- Arrival of the shipment/s in Indonesia must be within 3 months of the date the shipper arrives in Indonesia (per immigration Admission Stamp in your passport).
- All items must have been used by the person importing them for a period of 12 months prior to entry into Indonesia.
- A shipment should only include reasonable amount of major appliances and home entertainment electronics (based on customs official interpretation).
Dutiable goods
- New furniture and household goods are subject to customs duty.
- Pets are subject to import duty.
- Any items in commercial quantities are subject to import duty.
